UNIFEM organized a Young Women’s Forum (YWF) on 24 August 2010 from 10:30 to 19:30 CDT, during the Global Interactive Forum at the 5th World Youth Conference taking place in Leon, Mexico, on 23–27 August 2010.

The objective of the forum was to create a space for discussing the potential of young women as agents of change in accelerating their human rights and empowerment, so that they can better contribute to the development of their societies.

In particular, the YWF raised awareness and strengthened capacities to enhance young women’s participation in:

  • the prevention and response to HIV and AIDS;
  • the eradication of gender-based violence;
  • the construction of peace, governance and development, according to international standards; and
  • the achievement of the Millennium Develoment Goals (MDGs).
