Dear Young Feminist Wire members,
This new comic by QAHERA, a comic artist blogging about the issues relevant to Cairo in the form of comics touches on the issue of street sexual harassment in Egypt, and identifies through the comic different problems and issues that face women struggling against this issue.
The comic is a very compelling way to raise this issue and makes visible the complexities of addressing street sexual harassment for women in Cairo (QAHERA in arabic).
In the ‘About’ section of the comic page, the artist identifies herself as a female, Muslim, Egyptian artist who has created Qahera as a superhero character and draws about her in various situations in Cario. Qahera is a female visibly muslim superhero who combats misogyny and islamophobia amongst other things.
