Young Feminist Activism Program
Part of AWID’s Building Feminist Movements and Organizations Initiative
Feminist movements and organizations around the world face numerous challenges to their strategic capacity and ability to effectively empower women and advance their human rights.
Through our Building Feminist Movements and Organizations strategic initiative, AWID promotes reflection and action on ways to strengthen women’s movements and organizations worldwide. The goal of this initiative is to assist women’s rights advocates with organizational strengthening and movement building tools and resources, and to support collective action to achieve the common goals of women’s rights and gender equality.
The Young Feminist Activism program works towards this goal with one key constituency within women’s movements and organizations. Young women play a specific role in the expansion, rejuvenation and sustainability of women’s rights activism. Efforts to support younger activists are therefore vital to strength and success of the women’s movements and organizations both now and in the future.
The Young Feminist Activism program works with young feminists and their allies to:
- Develop individual, community and institutional support systems to foster and sustain young women’s activism
- Ensure that young feminist initiatives have access to resources, capacity-building opportunities, funding, advice and networks
- Promote multigenerational organizing by women’s rights activists of all ages
- Support the involvement of young feminist activists in policy and decision-making dialogues affecting their rights
